the big white canvas

so here's an easy piece that i made while we still lived in denver that pretty much anyone can do. i say "pretty much anyone" because jacob will read this and say that he can't do it. and he's pretty much the only one that reads my blog too.

modern "word art" at its finest.

all you need is:
1 large white canvas
a printer
paint [in a fabulous color]
paint brush
scissors
and a pencil

start by picking a saying or phrase that you would like to be hanging on your wall. it could be anything... something silly, something romantic, a nickname, lyrics to a song, etc.

print one letter on a page [can use a word document, making a really ginormous letter in any font that you like]:

then grab your large white canvas... you can either leave it white or paint it [i painted my canvas white before starting. and yes, it hung like this on the wall for months]:

arrange the letters on the page to make sure they all fit. reprint if not. in an ideal world, i would have formulas and specifications of how big, etc. i just wing it. i think life is more fun that way :)

carefully cut out all of the letters and trace them onto the canvas:

then all you have to do is paint in the lines! sort of like old school elementary school style.
[and erase any places where the pencil line is peeking out when you're done.]

finished product:

see?! pretty easy, eh?!

total project time was about 2 hours... that is, if you don't count the 2+ months i've had the large "ashley's modern snowscape" of a canvas hanging on my wall.

what would you make your word art say?
